For the last 3 years I have worked as a contractor surveying and documenting network fiber and patch cables prior to equipment upgrades. Now, the project is coming to an end and I am getting less and less work.
Is there a need for this service in general business?:
1- photo document all MDF, IDF and network closets
2- trace all fiber and patch cables to termination
3- create xls spreadsheets and visio diagrams of entire network and connections
4- update or create new labeling for patch panels and cables
5- inventory equipment with model numbers, serial numbers and mount locations
Network closets can easily become a rat's nest of cables, and until something goes wrong most IT guys don't have time to waste tracing cables. Seems that having the closets documented would be a great help to them.
