Yeah, it's going to be cool to see what ATi has been working on in the past 6 months besides the Eyefinity6 edition cards, you would think they are already working on better stuff...they can't just be sitting around twiddling their thumbs. I'm sure we'll see a 5890 or something like that after Fermi launches, but I bet they have more up their sleeve. With that, I'm sure nVidia is also fast at work. I like this game

Oh wow, so um... the newer GTX 480 is only 5-10% theoretically better than the HD 5870, but 20% more expensive? (aka ~$80 more)

Not to mention ATI has the HD 5970 out for $625. It will be interesting to see how the GTX 480 performs vs the HD 5970 and weigh the benefit to cost ratio.

Or even if they just lower the price on all of their cards $10-$20, push the 5870 down $399, 5850 $299, and set a 5890 at $489 to match Nvidia. Then I can afford a 5850 and I'll be happy

It's cool, I'll just merge the threads.

But it doesn't seem to be very cost effective to me. Btw, I know I've been out of the loop but why are these named GTX 400 series and not 300?

300 came out as OEM level only cards, 310/15/20/30 /40

Well this makes me want the HD 5970 for sure, however now I feel like I should wait for a potential price reduction when the GTX 480 finally comes out.

Plus I'd like to see a real benchmark with the GTX 480.

Well with gt 480 specs like that the 5970s aren't coming down in price. They'll still be the fastest GPUs out there, so they'll stay high. Though the 5870s may come down to compete better with the 480 if the 480 is slightly faster.
