Devices that Use 700MHz UHF Band to Become Obsolete

If you've got some wireless PA systems in use, you might want to check to see if it operates in the 700MHz UHF band. This band, which is also used by wireless microphones, intercoms, and in-ear monitors, was auctioned off in 2008 and next-gen wireless services will start using the frequencies on June 13, 2010.

It is unlikely that any policing will go on, and the devices will continue to be usable, but experts say that interference will be serious in markets where big players are utilizing the spectrum. A Shure spokesman told Pro Sound News last year that devices with a wireless range of 100 feet could be cut down to only 10 feet with all of the interference.
