Verizon Tests Sending RIAA Copyright Notices

It looks like Verizon is getting ready to start sending out copyright violation notices to its customers starting today. Supposedly the letter will instruct the user to delete the offending content but will not issue an ultimatum or threaten service interruption.

Verizon, the second-largest phone company in the United States, is expected to begin issuing "copyright notices" on behalf of the Recording Industry Association of America to those accused of illegally downloading songs from the Web, according to sources with knowledge of the agreement.

I don't have Verizon, but I'm assuming and hoping this is only for people who download songs illegally on their phones, not that somehow Verizon would know if a song is obtained illegally.

Either way, I don't like it.
