Police: Mother Lets 7-Year-Old Steer Van Before Crashing Into Tree

LAKE MARY, Fla. -- Police said a seven-year-old sitting on her mother's lap steered a van through some mailboxes and into a palm tree in Lake Mary.

According to a police report, the mother sat the girl on her lap so the child could steer and work the van's pedals. The girl wasn't wearing a seat belt.

The girl was treated for minor injuries after Saturday's crash. Her mother has posted a $2,000 bond on a charge of felony child abuse.
