Nvidia Plans GeForce GTX 275 Against Radeon HD 4890

It is a bad time to be buying Nvidia period lol.

Not being mean or anything. But when you buy Nvidia you HAVE to understand their naming schemes before hand. At least ATI is a bit easier to keep track of.

Is it just me, or is the GTX 275 kind of a pointless card? It is outperformed by the GTX 280 and barely outperforms the GTX 260. Wouldn't it be wiser to just oc a GTX 260?

lolwut? why is it a bad time to but nvidia?

i do not see how the GTX 275 is going to "barely" outperform the GTX260. i mean it's not going to be a GTX 285 but it will have very similar performance.

then this brings up the 4890. is that no more than a overclocked 4870 1GB? so just get a 4870 1GB and overclock it, there is no need.

i think it's be gtx 260<gtx275<gtx280

it's like a downclocked 280 but with the same amount of cores...and like others said, half a 295

According to some sites the rv790 die (4890) is bigger than rv770 (4870,4850) which implies that it is much more than a overclocked HD 4870.

If the die is larger the most likely reason (in my opinion) would be more stream processors. I realize most sites are clamming it still has 800 sp's but I wouldn't tale it to seriously since they also thought rv770 had 480 sp's right up until the week of the launch.

the 275 has higher clocks then the 280. 275 has 55nm die will clock nicely. reports are saying it should be faster then a 280 by a litle bit. thats where all the head aches are coming from in the name scheme. because if its true then that complicates alot. 275 faster then 280. this is also dependant of how limiting the memory and bus really is.

I wonder how well this thing can overclock? If a 260 overclocked can reach the speeds of a 280. Then maybe a 275 overclocked can reach speeds of a 285?

wth? that's dumb...nvidia needs someone new in the naming department :\
