iPod Touch Safari Problem

I have a 1st generation iPod Touch that has the latest software update. Recently, when I have been browsing the internet with Safari, I've been having some problems when I have more than one tab open. When I go to select the tab I want to view, it has been freezing and Safari crashes after anywhere from 10 to 45 seconds. When I start Safari back up again, it runs smoothly. It does not do this every time I use Safari, and there doesn't seem to be a pattern or specific page that is affected. I just wanted to know if anyone else has been having this problem, or if there are any solutions to it.
