i own 2 different dvd's that are meant to play in different parts of the world. i have played them, and they will work by changing the setting of where i am at. but i also know i can only do that a few times, before windows locks me out of them (or everything else) for ever. this is what happens when you don't ask the right questions on eBay. anyway, is there some kind of software that i can permanently convert them and then burn them to another blank dvd? i have owned them for years. so its not like i am trying to bootleg some hot new movie. one is an old "Thornberry's" movie, and the other is a documentary on the old British Triumph company.

I suggest giving VLC Player or Media Player Classic a try - they can sometimes play region-locked DVD's.

I have personally used Handbrake for making personal backup copies of my personal DVD movies. It's easy to use and has a ton of options available. This article has a good list of software, however: Five Best DVD Ripping Tools
