I think the 6970 would be the best buy. The 2gb of Vram looks to be something you might want for the future. Also it stands head to head the the 570.

Never will you need to do that. People make air cooling look like the bad guy but it is extremely good for normal use like your saying, if your doing a good bit of overclocking liquid cooling is a good idea. But submerging the entire system for $400 when that is going to damage your comp, no.

Im planning on upgrading my system in preparation for a multi monitor display. Im stuck between the EVGA 570 and a XFX 6970. i like EVGA's upgrade plan but I like the 6970's extra performance and 2gb of Memory. Im leaning towards the 6970 but im wondering if I forgot about something.

No i havent tried it in safe mode and I havent tried a clean boot. I did run malwarebytes. The problem has resolved itself for now
