first, you should shutdown the machine and check to be sure everything is set correctly. check the cables, memory, drive jumpers, etc.
next, check the bios to verify all settings seem correct.
then, delete the partition and start again.
No the tech guy is absolutely right, PCI wireless adapters are much more reliable than USB. you should have an open PCI slot ( not PCI-Express ) inside the machine.

make sure you have Windows Search 4.0 installed. then perform a search for the file.

actually you might consider adding vista to the GRUB loader. if you have the latest version of Ubuntu its under the system menu. last time i checked vista has no knowledge of GRUB, however GRUB can see the vista loader.
i could be wrong though.

it sounds like your talking about file associations. in which you can change by simply right clicking the item you'd like to open then choose open with.
