My hands on experience:
My i7 rig in sig versus a i5 750 w/ 4gb of ram and a 5770.
The i7 with a gtx260 got just a little better fps in games like crysis, borderlands and MW2.

I'm not sure if it would leave a trace; even if it did, I'm just taking a random guess that the user would need some knowledge to know exactly what was taken, same on Windows machines.

well if you really dont mind spending an extra 77 you could get a 5870 system with the i7 still. Be your best bet for lastability.

The 5770 and the 4870 are **** near identical in terms of performance. The 5770 just has more features, and is more future friendly. I would go with 5770 over the 4870 any day.
