Do you know these items?

Ok, so right after I posted that, things went super crazy. I was running MBAM for longfile to post here, then I started running ComboFix. I don't know if it was combofix that did it or something else, but while running combofix MBAM just closed. then every window except combofix closed. then the computer restarted. upon restart, the mouse was largely inoperable, the keyboard didn't work for 2-3 minutes. EVERY program I tried to open said that the program had been removed, including windows restore. I restarted again and ran a system restore out of system repair and now everything is golden. R3 is gone, as are all the O17. O15 is necessary, I do know what that is, and the toolbars are inactive. I do remove them with HJT but they don't go away. they are all from trusted sites so I don't worry. I believe that I may have been targeted and my system stopped the attack, since my internet connection, while working, registered as "unknown", as opposed to normal "Network4". all my AV, AM, and reporting software works again, no current issues. the only thing I noticed on the windows logfiles was a Critical Update from windows. that may have triggered all this as well

**EDIT**
question. all those O23 "file missing" entries... can I delete? They all say "unknown owner" and kinda worry me

When you run Combofix you shouldnt run anything else. As Combofix will close out all other programs, including explorer.exe to run and restart the machine afterwards. So that could explain why the system reacted the way it did. Sounds like you started Combofix after you already had MBAM running, which would cause it to close along with everything else.

The Toolbars wont be removed by HiJack This. It will only remove the startup entries till the next reboot. They need to be manually removed from the Control Panel, Remove Programs area. Then you can use HiJack This to remove the startup entries.

As far as the "file missing" entries, you can remove them, but note that it might caused some adverse effects. Some of those entries might be missing cause the apps are not currently running at the time, so the files are not present due to them not running. Same effect you get when running a registry cleaner. So you could remove them, but next time you try to run an app, you might notice some lag in it starting or it not functioning properly due to the entries being removed.

Thanks, I guess the other issues were not clearly defined. at this point I'm just trying to figure out what happened. I had suspected that the problems running mbam were caused by combofix, thanks for that clarification. The reason I was running those programs, however, were due to extremely poor mouse response, keyboard "blinking" *worked for 2-5 sec then off, then back on* again soon after the "critical update". please note what happened after combofix restarted the computer. after the restart, combofix itself wouldn't open, no processes, even crtl-alt-delete wasn't working. I had a screen, all my icons, but only folders would open, but the content of the folders were inaccessable *i.e. click on a picture, nothing would happen, click on music, nothing would happen* there was only one responsive item, a video on the desk top that opened in media player.

I cant even begin to explain why the system acted that way. I dont know what it was trying to process at the time. It could be that it was trying to process all those commands from previous executions or it could be that the infection caused this reaction. No way for me to know or answer such questions from where I sit.
