| Re: XP Pro question Mak, In docs and setting folder, what would happen if I renamed those folders to something like oldme.moe and then try logging on and if I am successful, would it them be OK to delete it as long as I can log on and get to MY desktop? If I can't, I could always change the name back, right?
thank you. |

| Re: XP Pro question Is you user name ME? IF so then do not touch them. If not then they will not affect what you do. If they do then they are spyware/malware or worse. Each folder represents a profile. So unless the name matches your that you use to log in and use then they are safe to get rid of.
I am sorry but i really dont know how else to say it. If it is not the Admin account or a account you use then it doesnt have to be there. I am sure i have said this a few times now. What you choose to do is your choice. I can not tell you anything new.
If you are paranoid then dont remove them. If you want them gone then delete them. Not much more i can say. System Restore will not bring them back and renaming them will not do you any good. Cause if you rename them and can not log in then you will not be able to put them back to their old names.

| Re: XP Pro question Under user accounts in CP, there are 2 accounts one is called ME and the other is guess. So I assume anything related to ME, administrator, default user has to stay in docs and settings folder, correct? Would you say the rest could go? Please don't get mad as I am trying to clean up my docs and settings folder. I only want to delete anything with your blessings as your are a knowledegable guy.
thank you
I will do the things on the guide tomorrow when I have more time.

| Re: XP Pro question It isnt that i am mad. I just dont know how many different ways i can say the same thing. I have already stated several times now that if it is you username that you use to log in with that has to stay. Admin has to stay. Default has to stay.
Other than that it can go. This is all stuff i have said a few times now. It just feels like i am playing a broken record right now.
So again. It it is NOT your personal user account that you log in with to use. Or the Administrator or the All Users account it can go. Just like my window shows. the Default user is a hidden file and should remain as well.
Anything else, all the rest of the files can go. the Me.Moe i have no idea what that is. I have NEVER seen a Windows extension with .Moe in my life using Windows. Which has been since Windows 95. So i am questioning your system security cause of this. That is why i wanted you to run the Guide. I believe you are infected with a malware or virus.

| Re: XP Pro question A profile should be deleted through Control Panel, not by manually deleting files from C:\Documents and Settings. Some program generated the extra folders, and there isn't a way to know how everything may be linked.
If it really bothers you, create a new account (which will create a new profile), and then move your data to it (not by copying and pasting everything in the profile folder. Wait a few weeks, and if everything works fine and your data is still intact, remove the old account(s) using Control Panel, and if you're really brave, manually delete the folders with the MOE extension.
There is a risk involved in trying to resolve this problem. Before doing anything make sure you have all your important data backed up. |

| Re: XP Pro question Those Extra folder would be in the App Data area and not under the Documents and settings folder. I have created and deleted accounts several times. The folder are no longer in use after you delete it from the Control Panel but the folder remains. There is no harm in what he is doing.

| Re: XP Pro question Yes. But your statement about software putting folders in is not accurate. They do not put folders in with the profile folders. I had already established with him that these were former acocunts that were removed. So everything that i had said is correct.
Applications do not put extra folders in where the profiles are stored. They put them in the Application Data folder and the My Documents folder which is not located here.
So everything i had said previously about being able to remove them cause they are unused profiles is correct.
