it was a program i had installed AGES ago over-riding the icons, i thought i had unistalled it but there was a small folder left in my program files that was set to just over-write .CSS and .HTML files.

I know this isnt the awnser you want but...
Get firefox its safer and faster and it will show up with the firefox symbol too!
Give firefox a chance for if you dont like it dont use it but i doubt that will happen.
