Default Winxp Pro? 64bit edition?

New system
AMD 3200+ Venice
ABit ul8 MB
2gb dual channel memory corsair XMS
Antec quiet case and 430 TPII power supply
AGP ATI 9800 pro 128mb (will upgrade but Os comes first)
Was using XP home on old system, crash and burned Gateway Pent4 2ghz

Finished building my system yesterday

Which would you choose?

Pros and cons

Winxp Pro/sp2?

WinXP 64bit edition?
(this one not sure of
read about so many
driver isssues)

I know Vista is coming out but I will wait to see what happens
with it before I buy it. sticking with Win XP Pro for now.

at least for my setup.

i have never tried xp pro 64-bit, but my parents have your same setup (except 1GB ram) and their system runs pretty slow on 32-bit. I would recommend 64-bit, if it costs the same as the 32-bit version of XP.

Off-Topic - i think you need more RAM, even 256 will make your system incredibly faster.

IMO, I would tell you to stick with XP Pro until Vista comes out. Not worth the money for the 64bit XP. There aren't many drivers support as alot of people have mention, and not many application written yet to take advantage of the 64bit computting power.

You make sure you have driver support when you build and unlike others who haven't tried the OS I use it as my main windows OS. Works great.

Nothing is secure to an extent.

What do you suggest then?

xp 64 is way faster than xp. but a lot of things don't work on it.
