Default WinXP Black Screen after POST

Hi, I'm using a Dell Inspiron 5100 Laptop. Recently my laptop locks up with a black screen after the WinXP logo/boot screen (the power-on self test). I've had that problem before; I was able to boot into safe mode and do a System Recover to an earlier date, and it all seemed fine. But now, I've tried a system recover and it doesn't work.

I've been talking to Dell Support, but most of the fixes they gave me don't work. I believe it's my video card, since I've had problems before with the card, and windows boots fine in safe mode (no drivers loaded, i think). I'm actually running the computer in safe mode right now.

I looked at the Microsoft Support website and an article said it was a fault in either my:Master boot record, Partition tables, Boot sector, or NTLDR file. I have doubts that any are corrupt; I ran Disk Management, and saw that all the partitions are clean. The other fixes require me to use the Windows Recovery Console.

I'm confused about what to do... any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
