Mak: Relate question.

Once upon a time (before I bought a legit copy of XP) I used something to validate it. Now, you had to enter a correct key, but then if it was i use, you just added a quick change to the registry. Would changing the registry to do that be 1) Legal? 2) Against the EULA?

And what about a keygen for it? If you found a legit code? (I've used this stuff before, but now I bought mine, . So I'm just wondering)
absolutely not mate.

Thorn can you name me a single keygen that is legal? Or anything that is used to bypass activation?

Didnt think so.

IT is not legal to use anything to get a serial other than the Certificate of Authentation (COA) given to you by Microsoft with your purchase of Windows. That is it. End of story.

(I didn't expect that to be, just checking)

What about the registry edit? You already have a serial, it installs, you just don't have a "valid" copy of windows when you want to download something from Microsoft?

No, its not legal.

The key is already in use, therefore breaking the EULA. 1 key, 1 computer. Retail can be TRANSFERRED to another computer, but cannot be ACTIVE on the old computer once used on the new computer. OEM legally CANNOT be transferred.

Why would it be legal to change your registry? Of course it isnt legal. Cause it is still not a legit serial.

Also to download something from the Microsoft site you must have the latest version of the WGA Validator installed. From there it downloads a WGA Program to your system which checks the validity of the system, and then generates a passcode which you must insert into a box to get the download link.

If it is illegal to use a KeyGen it will be illegal to hack your system to fake a legit serial.

KeyGens, Validators, Activators and anything that can cause your system to be registered as legit when it isnt is illegal. Period. End of story.

The only legit way is the way i stated in my previous post. With the Serial provided by Microsoft that has a COA.

Is it legal to go into a Best Buy and walk out with a TV without paying for it?

Windows licenses aren't free; they are for sale. So if you use one without its being payed for, then you're stealing it, and stealing isn't legal.

It's legal for you to buy a license and use it on one computer at a time, and it's legal for someone else to buy a license for you and you use it without personally paying for it as long as it's being used on only one computer. But it's not legal for you to use a license that hasn't been payed for.

It's also not legal for you to use a license that someone else payed for without their knowledge of your using it. That's like going into your neighbor's house and stealing their TV. Stealing is illegal, no matter how smart you have to be to do it.

Having a licensed copy of windows XP has many benefits, not only are you 100% legal but you can also receive important updates that are distributed through MS update, and with your personal XP license you can also create your own unattended XP disc including slip-streamed service packs and updates, skins and other mods using nLite.
