Unhappy Windows XP Home hanging during startup

My windows XP home is hanging during the startup. I can't even get into safe mode. When I try to get into safe mode it shows the files loading and the last one it shows is c:\windows\system32\drivers\mup.sys, then the system restarts. Any ideas what I can do to get into windows?...to fix this?
