Default Windows Vista Ultimate and Xbox 360 - Media Center Problem

Well, since the 360 is supposed to function as a Media Center extender, I'm trying to set it up on my laptop. I turned on the 360 and my laptop came up with "Extender Found: Xbox 360 Extender" or something like that. My 360 gave me a number, I punched that in my PC, and the PC went through a checklist of stuff. It never completes the last step, "Connecting to Extender" because the 360 says it loses connection or something.

I've tried many different connections, Laptop is on WiFi to router, 360 is on Ethernet to my router. That doesn't work. Laptop is on WiFi to router, 360 is connected to laptop's Ethernet with crossover. That doesn't work. Laptop and 360 connected with Ethernet with no other connections. That doesn't work. I can't get the PC to connect to the 360. Media sharing (accessing PC's music and video using the "Music" and "Video" menus on the 360), works fine, but Media Center doesn't.
