Default Re: Windows Vista SP2 Beta Next Week

If you look at all the SP that Microsoft has put out XP SP2 was the ONLY one that ever included new features like it did. Ever other SP put out was jsut a combination of all the fixes they already had out. So with that in mind dont expect anything to come with this one. Just expect it to be like Vista SP1.

It isnt make or break time. Vista SP1 is fine. It performs just fine. It is on par with Server 08 which everyone raves aobut. From a coding stand point the ONLY difference between Vista SP1 and Server 2008 is that Server 2008 has the server console and is a Server OS. The main code is the same. They run the same kernel and everything.

Also being a beta tester doesnt take much time. You run the beta software and if you see a bug just report it real quick. Takes no more time than typing in a response here.

If it crashes your system well yeah then you have to take some time to fix it. But that is why most people run the Beta software in a Virtual Machine or on a dedicated testing machine. I do not. I run it right on my main rig with all my stuff.

But i have the time to format and reinstall. That is why i do it. If there is a unlikely bug like there was with a Vista Beta where you lose paritions or something it can be recovered. All of my data i need is stored on different drives from my OS drive. So if i lose that stuff no big deal. Rebuild my partitions and reinstall the OS's.

But those bugs are few and far between. The major part of Beta testing is just bug hunting. Finding out which software doesnt work withthe Beta, if any, and finding out what bugs you come across by just using the software as you notmally would.

But i ramble. No there wont be any major additions to SP2. Just like there wasnt to SP1.

i guess i should of said 'make or break' for the review's and people on the boarder between keeping XP and waiting until windows 7 or make the move to vista - which seems to be quite a bit.

as for beta testing...i have done some recently - server 08, IE8 - but i'd like to really get into it and find some good problems but just...i dunno. no time and low on the resources unless i use only VM's. used my last somewhat powerful pc to install ubuntu 8.04 and run my xp VM.
