| its quite weird, but when i click on any of my mp3s once or hover over them in win explorer, the duration shown is completely wrong. depending on the real duration, its approx. the duration in minutes, but shown in seconds :-O eg. short tracks are shown as 3-4sec long, longer 7-8sec, and long >hour mixes ~1min19sec. when playing them in wmp, everythings ok, the duration is displayed correctly. any ideas what could be causing that and how to fix it? hp8510p winxp pro sp3 thanks |

| it still persists.. havent edited anything, doesnt matter where the files are located, every mp3's duration is shown wrongly. maybe the first obvious remainder of a trojan/adware/malware i somehow got a few days ago? heres the thread about that thing - had the exactly same symptoms, but even worse, couldnt boot windows anymore and explorer.exe terminated/ran repeatedly in few seconds steps, even in safe mode, was quite nasty.. only combofix made starting windows in normal mode possible again and stopped that restarting of explorer.exe. after that some 7-10 scans with different malware/antivirus tools made everything disappear. | Hello, Maybe try a repair install? How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install That is the thing about having a virus/trojan on a PC. It messes things up majorly and sometimes a repair install is needed to get your system back to normal. Cheers, Mak |

| thats what i was expecting. im just not so sure how to do that in my present situation and whether there could be any problems after doing it - like certain windows settings, problems with installed applications, my documents and some data in the local settings and application data folders. i have a hp notebook with win xp pro preinstalled, and a vista business cd. im using xp and dont want to install vista. so how can i perform a repair install of xp without an xp cd? |

| Hello, Right in our sticky that says read first there is a topic called how to install XP without the CD. How to install xp without the xp cd. Read thru that. There is a video available that shows you how to do it. Basically you will create your own XP CD. Cheers, Mak |
