This is the story, every time I unplug something like a usb drive or an ipod a few minutes later the computer will lock up and i have to hold the button. BUT if i unplug something like a usb gamepad nothing happens and everything works fine. Some help would greatly be appreciated

I have a 3rd party driver to make my ps3 controller work with my PC not sure if that would make any kind of difference.

If it matters I'm using windows xp and I'm on a dell 4700c PC.

have you updated chipset drivers and gotten sp3

Do you use the Safely Remove Hardware Wizard? Just unplugging a USB device like a iPod without going thru this can cause corruption.

And Mak I've tried that and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Check your device manager. Does it show anything near the USB Devices?
