Default Windows Live Messenger problem

I reformatted my computer the other day and am in the process of reinstalling some software.

I installed Windows Live Messenger like I did before, but this time there's a problem. Whenever I sign in, it will sign in and then sign me out about 2 seconds after signing me in. No error message, nothing, it just signs me out.

Anybody have any idea what's going on or how to fix this? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but to no avail

Do you have the latest version of Live Messenger? Build 14.0.8089.726 is the latest build. There is reports of older versions not being able to sign in or stay connected.

Yep, I just got it from their official site yesterday.

Interesting. I am signed in and have messaged people just a few seconds ago. So it is working. Do you have protection like a anti-virus installed with current definitions?

I don't use a virus scanner.

My computer is essentially configured the EXACT same way it was configured before the reformat.

Here, I recorded a video of what happens: YouTube - Windows Live Messenger Problem... Help??

Well that could be the problem. Infections are so good now that all you have to do is view a flash image on a web page and you can be infected. So without any protection such as a virus scanner in place it could very well be a number of things. I would seriously suggest a scan with Osiris's Guide to rule out this option first.

I know your thinking that it is not likely, but the simple truth is that if you visit even MySpace, Facebook or even Twitter you can easily be infected. these social sites are notorious for infecting machines. I would look into some kind of protection. Microsoft just released their Securty Essentials program today. It is at least worth a look.

I downloaded AVG antivirus, Spybot S&D, and AdAware. Nothing, I'm clean.
