Default Windows Live Messenger - Not installing at all... has a red X [Windows XP]

It says it did not install... does not give me a reason. I have space on my hard drive, and I've recently done a fresh install of XP and fully updated. Not pirated. Using Service Pack 3

Did you get the latest installer from the Live site?

Have you gotten all updates? Have you tried using WLM 8.1 for now?

Download details: Windows Live Messenger 8.1

Try that. I know that some of the online installers for the Live products can be iffy at best. This should install and run for you no problem.
