I’m really curious why companies try to enforce
DRM like protections into their products even though they should know that this is on a large scale only affecting the customers who actually purchase their products. This is in my opinion counter productive, but lets analyze this a little bit further.
Users who purchase Microsoft Windows have to activate and update it. Users who
download it from
P2P get it activated and with the latest updates installed. What’s wrong with this picture ? Oh yes, the first batch of users who actually paid for the product are having a less comfortable version.
They have to activate the system and will have to do it again if they change important hardware in the system. They have to use
Windows Updates to update their system after the purchase as well.
A new crack for WGA - Windows Genuine Advantage - was released two days ago. The release is called Windows.Genuine.Advantage.Validation.v1.7.59.0.CRA CKED-ETH0 and is already available on most P2P networks and the Usenet.
Raymond did analyze the contents of the crack and verified that it is indeed a working crack that makes it possible for a non legit
Windows system to use Windows Download Center and
Microsoft Update.
He also noted that the nasty wgatray.exe and wgalogon.dll files are not installed anymore when you visit Windows Updates for the first time. If you remember those have been the files that nagged the user. Good choice by Microsoft to remove those completely.
