Default Windows 7, netbook touchpad

I have W7 on my netbook (acer aspire one AO751h), touchpad has worked fine for a month. Earlier today, I plug in a USB mouse to play Quake (first use of a USB mouse), however after I unplugged the mouse my touchpad no longer responds.

I then went on to the Vista install the netbook came with, to find that for some reason the touchpad still didn't work, and neither do the right/left click buttons just below the touchpad. The driver states that it 'working properly', but obviously since it doesn't work in Vista that wouldn't be the problem anyway.

Do you think the touchpad just happened to die while I had the mouse plugged in or do you think it's not coincidence. I can continue to use a USB mouse for now, but any ideasas it's very annoying.

You have to remember, removing a USB Mouse is not like removing a USB Thumb Drive or external drive. I bet the Device Manager still have the touch Pad as disabled. While it shouldnt be, it could very well be a option somewhere to disable the touch pad once a mouse is inserted. Maybe something new with Win7? I cant tell you for sure as i havent tested that aspect. But check the device manager to make sure that the touch pad is still enabled.

On my laptop I have Synaptics (pre)installed. Control Panel -> Mouse -> Device settings. Has a button to enable, a button to disable and a check box to automatically disable when USB mouse is plugged in.

Thanks, it was disabled there (btw no checkbox). But not in device manager for some reason (thanks regardless Mak ) Anyway, it didn't work when I Applied, so rebooting now.
...
Unfortunately it didn't work.

(note that I am using the keyboard for all of this)

I may try reinstalling the driver for it.
