A) It will get people to upgrade to W7.
B) It's more of a gimmick than anything IMO; I've had no problems with W7 at all.
C) It'll still increase M$'s sales.

ah. I use 41 to 51% of my RAM usage, so upgrading to Windows 7 will help me a lot in everything! I might go 64-bit and have 4GB of RAM instead of 3GBs.

I actually had a talk about this with the Tech dept. today, They are still with XP and refuse to go to vista because a lot of the business programs didn't work right in vista. Might have changed with SP1, but the issues when tried out way back were enough for them to not want to change. The entire CNC shop has programs loaded from the server and it didn't go so well when they tried vista, and I think I got them turned on to Win 7 with the XP compatibility mode. So this option may not be directed to the average user, and they need the license to use windows in any form. so that part might be for this type of situation and if they were already using vista it would be a non issue so that's most likely why they require the XP license.

I think it's focused on the people who wouldn't upgrade to Vista and are stubborn about XP. Those people will be upgrading directly from XP, so they will already have a license. Let's just hope that it doesn't matter whether you have a retail or OEM license. The only thing about it is that we have been able to do the exact same thing for a long time and for free with vmware, virtualbox, and others.

I'm sure you're right. It's probably meant for corporations more than the home user. That's why it starts in the Professional version. It probably won't be a good option for the types of things a home user would want to run in it.

remember, Windows XP users have to fully reinstall Windows 7, Windows Vista users need to only upgrade. I have it easy then, but i think still might get the full version because i want my gf to have Windows 7 on her Macbook. It will help her a lot i think. Right now she boot camps Windows XP just to play Left 4 Dead, so the lower RAM usage in Windows 7 will help her but not to an extent where she can get 30 fps average. Idk, im still deciding on what to do.

how many computers can i install Windows Vista - retail on again? 3 computers? My family has 3 laptops that i recommend Windows 7 or XP on, one already has Windows XP. I wish i could install Windows up to 5 computers, would help me a lot in my situation.

That is not the case. You can only install on any 1 PC at any time. You can NOT install any Windows OS on more than 1 machine at any time.
