Have you put the homegroup key in all computers?

I've done all of that. they all have the same password. unless the material is suppose to be in the public folder (Which don't make sense) it's just not working

Because I use a mixed OS network I still use Workgroup, but my Windows7 Machines use both the workgroup & Homegroup. Try putting them on the same workgroup. The old network window is still there but hidden. There might be another way to find it but I just search workgroup when I have the network window open.

I've done all of that. I'm pretty good at networking and the such, but each computer tell me that it is the only one in the homegroup. the network acts like it on crack but I think that I got that fixed.

I do have 2 problems though. the copy and paste function sometimes don't copy when I copy an internet link. the other beef vista had the same issue. how come xp was smart enough to figure out when you use your others partitions for storage and vista and windows 7 can't. they still save stuff to the C drive user folder even if you click on the my documents link. in my document, picture and music properties I remove all reference folders from the c drive yet that doesn't help

Mak can you tell them about that? I don't store anything on the C drive

I cant tell you what is up with the copy/paste thing. As that is new to me i will have to research it more.

As for the Saving thing. It will save to other places, if you navigate to it first and save there. It will then automatically use that as the default storage location. It can also be program specific as well. Word is this way for sure and i know others are as well. You have to change the option where you saave the data.

I dont store any data like pics and that on my C:\ drive. I have changed my Libraries to the places i want and Win7 goes right to those drives by default. So maybe set those drives up as your Libraries or navigate to them first.

this one isn't so serious. it just happen every once in awhile. i just don't like the fact that it happens, but I can live with it. it might be an issue while facebook is being on the computer as a lot of features don't work right when I have facebook on

That's what I think that it will do. with xp you did this a few times and you didn't worry about it anymore. with vista and windows 7 it likes to navigate to their default folders almost a lot. now if I'm downloading pictures at one website like Free Family Tree | Genealogy - Geni it will go to my default folder is I set it there (F:\My Pictures\00 - Family) for awhile. but then one day it will just decide not to go there anymore.

Now Firefox automatically download to my Downloads folder if I don't specify it to go elsewhere, but IE won't.
IE also has a mind of it's own. sometimes it just doesn't like to remember your password and you have to retype it. i get tired on that. I say that IE is bipolar. but this is an IE8 issue as 7 didn't do this

I change the my data folders to other drives. but I go to save something in like my documents, but I choose my document in the left pane it will sometimes place it in the c user my document folder.

This just makes me mad, because this is just common sense and it worked in xp, it should work now. it was not broke then so they shouldn't have tried to fix it

For IE you have to navigate to the place you want it to download. After that it will save the location unless you clear the cache and other files from IE. That is when it will default back.

did you change the stuff in your Library? Did you set that to the locations you want? That will help prevent Windows from going back to the C:\ drive.

Alright click the Library link at the bottom in the Superbar. It will bring up the Library Window.

There click on Documents. In the upper left you will see this:

Click on the location. It will show you this:

Where you remove the Windows defaults (All the C:\ stuff) and put in your personal stuff. This is what i have done for all the Documents, Music, Videos and Pictures to get Windows to stop using the defaults pre-programmed and use the locations i want.
