| Typical Microsoft, doing sneaky things as usual. Jeeze, can they just not create a new Operating System without some brand new "feature" that has some stupid crazy new head-turning down-side??? DRM, Genuine Windows, Windows Update updating itself even when auto update is turned off.. etc. Minus the instability and inability to customize the OS like linux.. windows is the best operating system function-ability wise.

| Okay where are you getting your information from? Cause it is all wrong. Wincustomize, StyleXP, even Neowin with it UXTheme.dll patch can modify your widows to look like anyone of over thousands of different looks. So that is wrong. DRM is at the hardware level. Blame nvidia and ATI for placing that restriction on their cards. Not Microsoft for putting it in the OS. Genuine Windows was on XP LONG before Vista was even in Beta. So i have no idea why you think that was new with Vista. The Windows updating itself again is a XP issue not a Vista issue. So none of the stuff you even said refers to Vista let alone why they shouldnt improve with Windows 7. |

| I read that 7 will use the same kernel as Vista, not a new one, ala MinWin. See here (Microsoft Watch - Operating Systems - Eight Things About Windows 7) and here (Shipping Seven: Windows 7 Won't Have Compact "MinWin" Kernel). While I understand that MinWin is basically the Windows kernel stripped of everything, it looks like 7 will be the Win98 version of Vista. I could be wrong... and hope I am. I really have high hopes for 7.

| I have read those and still dont believe that they would use the 9X kernel. Considering that nothign with NTFS works with 9X. So would be kinda difficult to use that kernel. |

| I am not saying that Windows is as easy as Linux to customize. My comments were in regards to this: Quote:
I have Vista. I have DRM contect. I dont have DRM certified payers. Yet i can still view everyting on Vista without so much a hiccup. The DRM on Vista is easy to get around with a simple install of VLC and a good codec pack. | |

I was talking about it being from the same kernel as Vista. I was refering to the revamp of Win95 in Win98. I would much rather that MS make 7 a new system, not just put lipstick on the pig and try to pawn it off on the world as brand spanking new. I am especially disappointed that it won't be modular as it was originally proposed. Of course, things could change between now and release...

| Sorry mis-read that Trotter. If any OS will be the ME version of OS's these days it will be Vista. *cries* Can not belive i jsut admitted that. But it will be the truth. Vista was rushed in every way shape and form. Codename Longhorn could ont do what they wanted adn the things they wanted to do would not work with it. To add insult to injury they were not able to make many changes to teh GUI either. Seeing as Longhorn was almost a XP Clone. Vista was independent of Longhorn and developed quickly. Usually Microsoft takes 2 or 3 years to do a OS. They did Vista in 18 months. Not really much time to perfect it. Just like ME was. Windows 7 has been in development since Nov of 06 already. Now that is more time spent on Windows 7 now than was spent on Vista. So you can bet that Windows 7 will be prime, prepped and ready to go when it gets released and everyone will be happy with the improvement over XP. Just look at it this way. Vista took 18 months from Beta to release. It has already been 18 months and they have not even hit Beta yet. Much more time is being put into development of this OS. Even if they dont go with the MinWin, as it seems to be that they are not, they will refine and reduce the current Kernel to work that much better. Yes Forrest i am agreeing with you. They are not gonna use MinWin. More and more info about this is hitting the Microsoft sources i have and they have told me such. So i am aorry for disagreeign with you previously on this. You were right i was wrong. |
