Does anyone know I could strip down windows 7 to the bare essentials for gaming?

Turn off Aero. That is going to be the best suggestion. Gaming is not a problem on Windows 7 at all. Maybe if you give us some specs and the games your trying to run we can be of more help.

Well there isnt much that can be said. I have played games from as far back as 2004 on there with great frame rates and played a demo of some newer games with framte rates of over 60. that is with leaving everything alone. So really i dont understand what you want.

Win7 is far more optimized than Vista and you dont need to "trim the fat" to have games run great like you did in Vista. Look at Win7 like this, it runs like XP but has the visuals of Vista.
