Default win 2000 mouse

when installing windows 2000 os the msmouse.inf file could not b read,therefore im left with no mouse,i have downloaded that file but everytime i try to install it it asks me to find a "file,
what is a " file wat am i to look for?
would appreciate ur opinion ty

What happens when you just put the msmouse.inf file directly in the c:\windows\inf folder? Does the mouse still not work?

well i havent done that as yet as im still figuring out wat keyboard buttons does wat lol funny thing is i can rebuild a pc with my eyes shut it seems im hopeless at the easy stuff
and no this is the first time its done it,first time ive worked on this pc

Um, do you have a mouse driver disk laying around? I know we all use them as frisbees, but they do come in handy.
