Question

Hi everyone!

My wife and I are registered to attend the The New Efficiency: IT Professional and Developer Technical Briefing next week in SF. I just wanted to know if anyone here has attended one of these latest conferences and if yes, did they give you a free copy of Windows 7 and if yes, which version.

I did attend one of these conferences last year and sure enough, they gave me a free copy of Windows Vista Ultimate.

Best of all, for several hours they had a guy that really knew Windows Vista and showed us how to incorporate they system in ways we never even dreamed of...He also answered all questions we had.

Please let me know if you went to one of these newest conferences and if you were given a free copy.

Oh, one more thing...they also gave us unlimited pastries, coffee, and tea. It was awesome!

PS I just discovered that if they do indeed give us a free copy, it would be well worth the gas/mileage:

The full version of Windows 7 Professional is $299, with upgrades going for $199. Windows 7 Ultimate is priced at $319, with the upgrade version at $219. The full version of Windows 7 Home Premium is priced at $199, with an upgrade from Vista or XP costing $119.

Compliments of Information Week.

Has anyone gone to one of these conferences yet?

Please read the information and documentation provided about the conference. Only that can and will tell you what is given at the conferences. I know that the conference that i was asked to attend in NYC they were going to give away copies of Win7 Ultimate to attendees. But it may not be the same for you.

Only the information and documentation provided for your specific conference will tell you these things.

Ok, I went to FatWallet.com to get the newest news from attendees throughout our nation.

Here is what they said:

"You were only allowed to take the Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit or get on the mailing list for the 64-bit."

Same thing occurred at the Philly and the Atlanta event.

Have a great day everyone!

It should have been included in the email's that were sent to you about the event. I know that in the emails i received about the event in NYC that all this information was presented at least 3 times. Once in the original email inviting me, once in the confirmation, and once to inform me of the guidelines for the day.

Thanks Mak!

I did just receive my confirmation from Microsoft, but there was no info whatsoever regarding the Windows 7 Ultimate Freebie.

I never received a guidelines email for the day, but hopefully I will receive that before Tuesday's conference!

Have a good one!

Lex,

I forgot my login and password too. That was why I was attempting to fill in the gaps...

Anyhow, most of my questions were answered by carefully reading dozens of posts at Fatwallet.com at this specific url:

Free Windows 7 Professional Retail (IT Professional Launch Events In US)

Who knows, Microsoft just may begin to include the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate after receiving a not so small number of complaints.

I won't snivel...$319 X 2 = $638 of software and a free breakfast and lunch and lots of good up-to-date info on this new OS makes my wife and I very happy!

And we plan on walking across the Golden Gate Bridge for some good sight seeing and exercise too.

Sounds like a very exciting Tuesday for us!

Oh, I did have one more question...anyone here know that gap [in years] between the Windows 7 release date and the next anticipated Windows OS? I was hoping for at least a couple of years before having to upgrade again!

Yeehaw! Go Cowboys!

I believe MS is going to get on the regimine of trying to do an OS every three to four years, like they did with 95, 98, 2000 and XP. The release dates between Vista and 7 are about 3 years, which is the goal at this point.

What do you mean two software packages? YOu only get one, either windows 7 or server 2008. You don't get both.

You should have already received your confirmation email with all of your information, i received mine the day after registering for the event.

Microsoft Windows Release Cycles

Right in the Read First Sticky.

Microsoft has always done a 2-3 year cycle. They would have had a OS out before Vista but there was a failure of the code. Codename Longhorn as it was known before it became Vista was in progress at the time after XP and it also had some great features. But sadly Microsoft bit off more than they could chew and the code line failed.

At was at that point that they started work on what is now Vista and less than 2 years after they started work on it, it was released to the public. It was premature at best of a decision as it hurt them greatly. But they are trying to fix that with Win7. At this time it is already confirmed that they have started work on several of the new features to be included in Win8. Which at this point is about 2-3 years out as it is.

You wont see a Beta of that hit for at least another year.
