When installing Directx..................

why doesnt it seem to save anywhere? like when i installed the lastest version today it just extracts millions of winrar files and then i have to click on dxsetup to actually install it, then after that it doesnt even show in add/remove programmes and also i remember being told its safe to delete all the winrar files that it first extracts, is that right?

Sorry this DX has always confused me as i install it yet i cant find any trace of it

NOTE my games run fine, this was just something i want to know out of interest really!

i just ran a quick google and found these directions
To remove DirectX Do the following:
Start > Run > regedit
Browse to and remove the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DirectX

i think you are confusing certain "flavors" of the ms software.

The one that auto-installs for consumers is the dx webetup...
The redistributable is intended for network installs...so techs or WE would have to install it after we extract the files...hence why it acts like it does.

and yes, after you install...you can delete those files
