Default what does DST Short Status test mean?

I'm trying to fix this dell d610 laptop that's act goofy. when I run the diagnostic test from the bios, I get this error.

DST Short Status test: failed
Error code 1000-0142
msg: unit 4: drive self test fail. status byte = 79

I'm thinking hard drive maybe?
