this is visual basic 2005 express edition think its free till 2007

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/vb/download/

it wont be the full version but best I can find for free. Think you can download visual basic 6 for a 90 day trail.

I haven't used VB 2005 but I presume its just an updated version of 6 with a new interface.

Ok, well ive been learning programming, and ive completed Qbasic which was free, and i would like to move on to the next step, and i though that it was visualbasic, (the steps go qbasic, visual basic, java, c, c++ right??) so do they make programs that are free that let you make things with visual basic, or does everything cost money now days, even making your own program? thanks

visual basic is microsoft's own version of basic updated. So it wont be free but there are enough trials and bare bone versions to tinker with.

Java is free I'm not much of a fan but many people are so have a crack at that, try these programs although you will have to read up on how to get certain things working:

http://www.jedit.org/
http://www.bluej.org/download/download.html
http://www.netbeans.org/downloads/index.html

c and c++ compilers are also free and Id recommend:
