I guess this isn't completely a hardware question, but I thought I'd ask it here

Today I was talking with a coworker over how PC's are much better than Macs, and he argued vise versa. A point he made was that that mac's operating system is so much better. He said Vista is garbage, which according to everyone here is no longer true.

But he made a good point and told me that it's so bad they are abandoning it, and coming out with Windows 7 or something. Is there any truth to this? Will I be forced to upgrade to windows 7 and waste my money now on vista?

No t hey are not 'abandoning' it. They are getting back on to their normal release cycle, as explained in that thread.

Vista was a mess when it first came out, but it is solid now.

Mac's OS will be slicker and smoother for one simple reason: it is designed to work on a closed set of machines. It runs on Apple's stuff, and Apple makes it all. Windows has to be able to run on darn near anything... from a p2 to a VIA to an AMD to a C2D and everything in-between... integrated graphics, high end cards... whatever.

Between the two, though, Vista would be my choice for the sheer possibilities it gives me.
