Default Vista will not start up and cannot go into Safe Mode

A friend of mine called and he needs some help. For no reasons known his OS will not boot up. He tried to F8 many times to get into advance options to boot safe mode but that is not working. He put the disc in and booted that to try and repair windows and no errors were found.

He is stumped and not sure what to do. Any help?

Thank you

He came over with the HDD last night and we could not figure things out. He is stumped. No one knows what the issue could be? The error states "Could not find OS"

His hard drive is dead or the OS has become corrupt if that is the error message. Vista does not have a repair utility like XP, so your only option is to reinstall Vista.
