firstly remote desktop connection isn't enough, u need a program like Cisco Systems VPN Client to connect to the server of the laptop then the IP Address/ System Name to connect thru remote desktop connection

For Example: I'm in school and wanna use my home PC to play games, I use the Cisco VPN Client to connect to my Router, then type in my IP Address for my PC and I have unblocked internet!! yay! unblocked internet!

There's probably just an authentication problem
*what ID are you connecting with?
*have you checked the services?
*are the computers on the same exact workgroup?
