Default Vista Reboot Time

Boot Up Time - Vista Forums

I saw this at Vista Forums and thought it would be pretty cool to post it here. It is a script that restarts your PC (IF you have Vista) and when it boots back up, tells you how long it takes to reboot. Maybe this can be a little competition.... Post your boot times, if you guys want me to keep track of all the boot times in this first post, add a screenshot for authenticity. Here is mine, minus a second or two for picking my account:

There is a 24 hour time limit on post editing. So you wont be able to edit the first post with all the results.

I dont need a timer. I know my system from the BIOS to the desktop takes about 60 seconds. Since i have a clock right by me here and it never gets past a minute from the time i hit the power button. Plus i dont run Vista right now.

First boot time was 104 (messed up on the screenshot trying to crop it...)

Second boot (Doing some low level tweaking) Also Windows 7 install disk in drive:

Third boot (Following the entire tweak guide on the Vista forums) *Not all tweaks were done* Also Windows 7 install disk in drive :

Not bad, but I'm also running Windows 7.

Well thinking about it, it asks you to shut down all running apps. But it still has to finish shutting down all your services and everything else. Not to mention save your profile along with any changes made.

Then restart.

Depending on when the script pops up with the results it also have to account for you typing in your password. Then possibly loading when you have set to load at boot.

So really it isnt a script to see how long you reboot. It is a script to see how long it takes to get from a workign desktop to a working desktop. Cause the only part that is truly the boot, is going from the BIOS to the login screen. Anything before or after that, is not part of the boot. It is part of Windows and can be highly affected by so many variables that are out of our control.

Yeah, a lot of variables, but this could be useful when working with a client, or a friend, trying to get them to upgrade an older system. If I was to put this on my old rid, I'd see in excess of 250-300 seconds... (Socket A 2400+, 1GB RAM, 5400RPM IDE Drive, and loading XP, use to be quick, but I had my assumptions the drive was failing.) Like 6 days after I got my new system, the drive did infact die.

I doubt that would be true. Yeah if the HDD was failing but not with the rest of the specs. My time is on my Dimension 8400.

When I first built it, it booted up in excellent time, but in the past few years, I could tell it slowed down quite a bit. It would take atleast 2-3 minutes in just the windows loading screen, and then time to load the desktop.

I am not saying that wear and tear wouldnt take its tool. But i dont have that much of a difference now on my Dimension 8400 compared to the newer Inspiron 1501 that the wife runs with XP.

Yeah, it's more of a desktop to desktop timer. It can still be useful to see if your restarting process is taking longer or shorter though.
