Default viewing wordpad files in word2003

ok my friend has rung me asking if they install office 2003 will they still be able to use old ms works worpad files, i said yes as its worked for me before but they are saying it wont open them and that the error said they need a translator or something? im pretty confused ive never had this problem.

open it with wordpad or notepad

i said that i thought it would do it automatically anyways, dealing with computer iliterate people can be stressful sometimes.

oh.

for some reason or another, some version of office 2003 won't recognize .wps (ms works) files while other version of 2003 will. this issue gave me a headache about 4 years ago. you can alway download works. most people don't realize that it's free
