Default Very strange booting error, please help

please excuse me for being a bit vague, but this error is really difficult to describe. when i start my pc (windows xp), and i click on the user account name, it takes me to my desktop, but the explorer and all the icons and stuff dont load. i waited for almost ten minutes. then i did ctrl+alt+del and put off explorer in processes and put it on again through the "run" utility.

i hope i have been clear so far. now when i did this, the icons and taskbar appeared, but the taskbar icons near the clock do not. also, when i try to put on any software (eg. trend micro), it gives me the following error "Winsock initialisation failed". the pc is pretty new (bought in jan) and is a phenom X3 with 4 GB ram. until 1.5 hours ago, i was running AutoCAD 2009 pretty fine on it. could anyone throw light upon this sudded weird error? all help would be highly appreciated.

thanks

There is a problem with your profile loading. Either is saved incorrectly or it became corrupted.

How to recover the damaged user profile in Windows XP

hmm, i created a new account and logged back onto the old one. now the old one booted properly, as in gave me the full desktop and everything. but when i went to the settings tab and selected the account, the "copy to" button was not highlighted. also, though most of the stuff works, my internet connectivity has not been restored.

That could be due to Trend Micro blocking it. Doesnt that have a built in Firewall? If so that is what is stopping you since it cant startup properly. Disable Trend Micro or uninstall it and you should have net access back.

Yes obviously something corrupted on your user account, by creating a new one it repaired your existing account, you may have had a malware that is battling with trend micro and thats why things are a bit funky still.

If you do as Mak suggested that should help and then go through Osiris's cleaning spyware guide to make sure that any bugs are gone.
