Default Utility download conflicts with anti-virus scanner

I have Mc Afee Total Protection, and some time ago I downloaded and installed a copy of ccleaner. It turns out that ccleaner prevented Mc Affee from updating the virus signatures and I had to re-install. I have downloaded and installed Open Office which works well with Mc Affee. So here goes the question: What sorts of software do I need to avoid in order to keep from having to re-install Mc Affee?

McAfee would be the best thing to remove.

Seriously though, McAfee is one of the worst A/V's out there, and you can get better protection for free (such as AVG, Avast, or Avira); or if you still do want to pay for an A/V and/or security suite, Eset makes Nod32 and Eset Security Suite which trumps Norton/McAfee.

McAfee Attacking Core System Files with Latest Update

Honestly with news like that being almost a quaterly thing from McAfee i would consider a new solution. When it not only attacks Windows files but its own, you know that there is a problem with the software. I would suggest AVG, Avast or something else aside from Norton or McAfee.
