Question Unknown Problem

Hello,

At the first of the year I built a new dual core mid tower. I originally installed Vista, then dumped that and went back to XP Pro and all was well.

Suddenly I find I am unable to run full virus and spy scans or registry programs without them crashing every time, even in safe mode. Quick scans run but reveal nothing.

I've found others on the web complaining of the same problem (though nothing dated past '05), but no solutions seemed to ever have been offered.

As of last week, my computer freezes - all by itself - about 30 minutes after booting, even with NO programs running and the computer sitting idle.

Now here's the really interesting thing, all those others on the web with the same problem . . . well they all were running DIFFERENT types of processors, memories, motherboards, anti-virus and anti-spyware programs!

Anyone care to take a crack at this one before I re-format my hard drive?

Sincerely,
Huelewton

I use the following:
Avira's Antivir Personal Anti-Virus
Lavasoft's Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition
3B Software's Registry Repair Pro
(But people report this problem with many other brands of these programs)

Yes, everything claims to be up to date, and I have even tried complete re-installs.
