Default trying to update my 32 bit version to 64 bit

im sure this is very simplte but i cant figure out how to fix the problem myself, so i come here to the best place i know where to go for advice when it comes to computers.

but heres my problem. i have windows vista home premium 32 bit version. i just recently ordered a 64 bit version of the same version of windows, still home premium edition to be able to upgrade more RAM into my computer.

well i put the new 64 bit version of windows disc in the disc drive and when i click the allow program button this alert message box pops up sayin this :

" Setup can not run on this version of the operating system. To install windows please try booting from the install media. "

can someone please tell me what exactly that means? ive never had this problem before. when i got an updated version for the first windows vista home premium i got i jus put the disc in and then it went through the installation menu and installed itself prefectly fine. ive never seen this message appear before.

any advice would be greatly apreciated and thanks in advance for any thats given to me.

Difference Between 32 Bit (x86) and 64 Bit (x64)

The reason you get that is because you can NOT upgrade from 32 Bit to 64 Bit. You MUST do a fresh install.

They have different core architecture and they can not be mixed like that. 64 Bit from the Kernel up is different than 32 Bit and you cant just swap out the Kernels that easily.

You will have to backup your 32 Bit information and Format and install Fresh the 64 bit version.

Format your PC, then pop in the x64 disc.
