Default Trying to speed up

Trying to speed up and older Gateway,its really low on the memory side
Thinking thats whats slowing up everything, would it be possible to free up some memory? ,with out having purchase any new to gain some speed computer has expensive rdram, or would there be any options for speeding it up on the cheap

Thanks for any help

P4 1800 mh
40 GB HD
384 MB PC800 rdram
XP Home sp2
Radeon 7000 video card

The best and cheapest option, is getting more RAM. The amount of RAM you have there, is just really low. So another 256-512MB of RAM, will definitely smooth things out.

edit: I see you mentioned RDRAM, which is very expensive. Well you can try defragmenting your hard drive, which should clean things up a little.

I agree bp1gapl but friend has no money for 256 x2 rdram $200us plus for cheap stuff not really a option

I'd suggest he defragment his hard drive, use registry cleaners, uninstall any unnecessary programs, and disable un-needed start up programs.

Use the program Ccleaner to clean your registry.
