Default For those using Limewire...

Thought I'd pass this on.

DENVER - District Attorney Mitch Morrissey is warning people to avoid file sharing programs, in particular LimeWire.

Morrissey says during an investigation into identity theft, Denver Police discovered personal information, tax records and bank account information of 75 different people and businesses at one Denver apartment.

"We're talking about identity thieves accessing parts of your computer that are private, that has the type of information that could be used to empty your bank account that could be used to create your identity," Morrissey said.

While no arrests have been made yet, Morrissey noted that nearly all of the potential victims used the free file sharing program LimeWire and felt that the public needed to know the risks associated with it.

Although interesting and possibly true, where are the facts / evidence?

Quote:
Within five minutes of downloading the software, he started counting.

"There's one, two, three, four," Spangenberg said.

A few seconds later, he counted nearly 50 attempts by outside users to access his computer. He quickly removed the program from his computer.
Well yes, that is what P2P programs do, access your computer, the article didn't say what was trying to be accessed or how he determined that. Weak evidence IMO

I am afraid that a bunch of people who use P2P software do not know how to protect themselves from attacks.

Limewire isn't the problem, it's illiterate computer users. I believe this was a scare tactic.

I download music, videos, games, porn, off Limewire.

I don't download Apps off limewire, because its mainly a 875KB file full of spyware.
