ok thank you very much guys, i assume that link is to the newest version?:happy:

since i have vista wont it be direct x 10? I used command prompt and typed in dxdiag and it tells me about my computer specs and says directx version: direct x10

Yes this is the latest version. But it wont overwrite the DX10 that is intalled in Vista. This is the latest version of DX9. Depending on which games you are playing they use DX9 not DX10. So that is why the DX is failing. Without knowing which games this error occurs on this is our best measure to try and find a solution.

it was only Dawn of War but thanks a lot it does seem to have worked, i've been really ill this week so haven't got on the PC but i picked a snowy map were it does snow(lines were always worse on maps with weather effects) and i left it for 5 mins and saw none, going to play some now and see what happens, thanks again!:happy::happy:
