Default Shut Down freezing

Hi,

I am running Windows XP Home edition on a HP Pavilion PC.

In closing the PC down by going “Start/Turn Off Computer/Turn Off”, the Pc commences its normal shut down routine until it gets to the page that says it is shutting down.

It remains frozen here, not completing shut down, and I have to manually turn it off by using the main power switch.

How do I get it to complete Shut Down properly?

Default Re: Shut Down freezing

go to start, run, type msconfig, go to the startup tab, disable everything but your antivirus and then reboot. you may need to manaully reboot and then once you get back to your desktop, reboot normally to see if the problem fixes itself
