Default Service PK3 Causing Bluescreen During Load !

I did a fresh install of win xp home and all went well. First thing i usually do after initial install is install sp2. But since i had downloaded service pk3 i thought i will immediately install it. After install the system briefly starts to load , ie the blue windows progress screen, but then i get a quick flash of a BLUESCREEN and the computer reboots. The progress screen only does about 1 -2 runs before this happens.. Just keeps repeating. Tried safe mode, same dice. Tried another fresh install this time with all the hardware drivers on first. Same thing again. Tried all of the above with sp2 on first then sp3 and same again.
No matter what i do after installing sp3 windows will not start. Gave up and now running on sp2 and had to do all the updates(90) manually. Dis sabled auto updates so it doesn,t put it on silently. Worked fine on my wifes little Compaq Pressario and thought it was great not having to download all those updates. But for some reason it doesn't like my machine. Anyone else using ASUS boards and AMD processors having similar problems? Found a few reports with a google search of similar, Peoples comps just rebooting after sp3. Anyone know what the go is?

Thanks heaps Mak, hope ya been keeping well. Cannot believe after doing a custom scan Microsoft still recommends strongly to install it! Major issue for me as i cant even get into safe mode. Think i'll play it safe and wait till they do their fix. Why the ....... would they " STRONGLY RECOMMEND " knowing if you have an amd it will stop the computer starting, not just give some minor issue !!. I love my PCLinux partition but unfortunately need windows for games i like. If it wasn't for gaming id give it the flick completely. There, iv'e had my winge for the day. Thanks again Mak. Maybe now that iv'e got this running sweet i can spend less time talking to the Indian people at the Microsoft registration office (getting to know most of them very well now !!!!, they are always very helpful and patient) and some more time browsing the forum to see if i can help out somewhere. Bye.
