Service Pack Files missing in XP

I am getting errors with Word, task manager and nearly everything is crashing more than I would like. getting a message that Files are missing from

C;/Windows/servicepackfiles/i386/mswincrt.man

See systems administrator or reload service pack. I don't have the former and don't know how to do the latter. Loaded the XP cd but nothing obvious. Could find a folder i386 but where to paste?

Help anyone?
